Brandon is located just east of Tampa and is less than a half hour drive from the city.  The town’s inception began in 1858 when John Brandon purchased 200 acres in an area then known as New Hope.  He changed the name to Brandon and donated land to build the New Hope Church about 4 years after settling in the region.  The church also served as the first school.  In 1890, railroad lines were extended through Brandon and a train depot was erected.  The town grew in fits and starts until the Great Depression when several chicken farms were closed, putting many residents out of work.  In the late 1940’s, a large egg farm was established that served most of Hillsborough County.  More people moved in to work in the large orange packing houses in nearby Valrico.  The town of Brandon continued its fast growth through the 1960’s until today as commuters discovered the easy access to Tampa and to other areas served by I-75.  Today Brandon is a fully established town with many new schools, restaurants and shopping centers, including the Brandon Town Center mall.

The La Collina neighborhood broke ground in 2015 and this beautiful gated-community will be developed to contain a total of 292 new homes.  Local builder, Homes by WestBay, has constructed many of the single-family homes including the award-winning Key Largo, Capri and Biscayne designs.  The newly built homes range in price from the high-$200’s to over $600,000 depending on the size and features.  Residents enter through the Mediterranean-inspired community gates and enjoy the resort-style pool and cabana, parks and open green spaces. One of the key assets of the neighborhood is the inter-connecting paths from the cabana pool to the neighborhood parks, open green spaces, and Bark Park as well as its ease of access to all that the Brandon and the Tampa Bay region has to offer.  Residents can walk to the grocery store, bank, restaurants and more, a rare feature for this part of Florida.  There are three grocery stores within a 5-mile radius of La Collina, as well as the Westfield Brandon Mall. This puts retailers such as Dillard’s, Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Sears along with a host of other stores in close proximity.  Costco, Nordstrom Rack, Kohl’s and other big name stores are located nearby.  Plus, all the area beaches and attractions are only a short ride away so the family can enjoy any of a number of activities.
